SUMMARY:Neurodiversity in our Spiritual Lives & Practice
DESCRIPTION:Each of us comes into this world created with a singular way of learning\, communicating\, and developing based on how our brain works\, creating the beautiful tapestry we call neurodiversity. On the contemplative way\, as we welcome all parts of our experience with an awareness of this neurodiversity\, we extend a deeper level of hospitality to ourselves and others\, which can open distinctive doorways to experiencing the Sacred. In this session we will discover common characteristics of brain-based differences\, utilizing the FASCETS Neurobehavioral Approach\, which inspires ways to incorporate awareness of neurodiversity into our spiritual lives and practice. \nLynn Alsup is an author\, social worker\, and spiritual director. Her three extraordinary\, neurodivergent daughters led her to FASCETS Center for Neurodiversity\, where she now trains parents and professionals in the FASCETS Neurobehavioral Approach―a paradigm that fosters the celebration and accommodation of neurodiversity. She lives with her family on the edge of the Chihuahuan desert\, building resilience and joy through writing\, yoga\, wide-open spaces\, and snuggling her four-legged rescuer\, Bryn the Bassador. Learn more at fascets.org and lynnalsup.com. \nThis event will take place Virtually on Zoom. Zoom Link will be sent to those who are registered on the Monday before the event. \nRegistration closes Friday\, January 23\, 2026.

SUMMARY:Celtic Spirituality: Sacred Earth\, Sacred Soul
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, April 1\, 202510:00am – 12:00pm CT\, Zoom \nRenowned spiritual teacher John Philip Newell will outline the main themes of his award-winning book Sacred Earth Sacred Soul: Celtic Wisdom for Reawakening to What Our Souls Know and Healing the World (Harper One). Newell calls us to be aware of the sacredness of Earth and every human being as key to the way of transformation and healing in our lives and world. \nJohn Philip Newell is a Celtic teacher and author of spirituality who calls the modern world to reawaken to the sacredness of Earth and every human being. Canadian by birth\, and a citizen also of Scotland\, he resides with his family in Edinburgh and works on both sides of the Atlantic. In 2016 he began the Earth & Soul initiative and leads international pilgrimage weeks on Iona in the Western Isles of Scotland. His PhD is from the University of Edinburgh and he has authored over fifteen books\, including Sacred Earth Sacred Soul\, which was the 2022 Gold Winner of the Nautilus Book Award for Spirituality and Religious Thought of the West. His latest book is The Great Search\, in which he looks at the great spiritual yearnings of humanity today in the context of the decline of religion. Newell speaks of himself as ‘a wandering teacher’ following the ancient path of many lone teachers before him in the Celtic tradition\, seeking the wellbeing of the world.

SUMMARY:Writing for the Soul as a Spiritual Practice
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, November 19\, 202410:00am – 12:00pm CT\, Zoom \nThe poet Mary Oliver wrote that when we “ …patch a few words together\,” we might open “…a doorway into thanks\, and a silence in which another voice may speak.” Come patch some words together in company with others as a spiritual practice for the soul. Taking inspiration from poetry\, images\, objects\, and more\, we’ll play and pray on the page. We’ll have the choice to read and share in small groups\, responding as supportive witnesses to one another’s words. No writing experience is necessary (and grammar and spelling don’t count!) \nJulie Hester is a writer and pastor living in North Carolina. Over 20 years ago\, she walked into a one-day writing workshop for bereaved mothers and found a way to use writing as a practice for healing. As a certified facilitator with Amherst Writers & Artists\, she leads in-person and online writing workshops for faith and community groups\, specializing in writing for healing and writing as a spiritual practice. You can find her at juliehester.com and subscribe to her writing prompts at WritingInCompany.substack.com.
